The installation of DEMO 1, located in Thiva, Viotia, Greece has been completed and is ready to kick off preliminary testing!
DEMO 1 is an innovative waste treatment plant, processing 50 tons of digestate daily from an existing AD plant having a capacity of 1MW. The system uses a zero-liquid and waste discharge approach, producing high-value products such as compost, organic fertilizers, ammonium sulfate, and reusable water. The process involves three main stages: mechanical separation of digestate into liquid and solid fractions, composting of the solid fraction, and evaporation of the liquid fraction to recover nutrients and water. Additionally, an ammonia scrubbing system captures gases from the evaporation process, producing ammonium sulfate. DEMO 1 promotes sustainable waste management and resource recovery, delivering valuable products for local agriculture.
