From the Classroom to DEMO 2: An Educational Visit within the LIFE DIMITRA Training Event
Students from the professional degree programme in Innovation and Sustainability in the Industrial Production of Food and the Master’s degree programme in Biotechnology for Bioresources and Sustainable Development of the Dipartimento di Biotecnologie – University of Verona took part in the LIFE DIMITRA training event, organised by the LabICAB research group – University of Verona in collaboration with Società Agricola Consortile La Torre.
During the educational visit, students had the opportunity to observe the DEMO 2 plant, located in Isola della Scala, dedicated to nutrient recovery from agricultural digestate for the production of bio-fertilisers.
The DEMO 2 treatment line is based on three main separation steps:
• a first solid/liquid separation through tangential filtration,
• ultrafiltration of the liquid fraction,
• and reverse osmosis for nutrient concentration and clean water recovery.
The visit represented a valuable opportunity to connect university education with real challenges related to ecological transition, the valorisation of agro-livestock residues, and the development of circular solutions for more sustainable agriculture.
We thank all the students for their active participation and Società Agricola Consortile La Torre for their organisation and collaboration.
